Looks great, and I think we’ll do it at some point. Hell, I think we’re going to do the Rob Kay tour of Scotland, FFS. The question is, what time of year? We don’t mind a little rain, just not constant and cold and driving rain.

The sweet spot is usually May to June. September can also be lovely, but there are never any guarantees. July and August are too busy, and also a bit midgey for my taste, though it makes no big difference unless you are planning to camp.

Yes, and I didn't even mention the delicious local food - seafood, venison and beef, especially, or the wonderfully hospitable places we stayed, including backpackers hostels, farmhouse B&Bs and quiet but luxurious modern country hotels.
