Northern Isles in December
Orkney and Shetland travels, at the darkest time of year.. the best treasures are the buried ones.
So we come to Shetland in mid-December 2021, and whilst you might expect this to be a land of darkness, it is the fleeting gleam of the low winter sun that makes it so special. The peninsula of Stenness (Shetland) has some of the most fabulous and yet unknown sea stacks anywhere in the North Atlantic.
So this was one of my favourite sea stacks: it almost certainly has a local name, but I couldn’t find it on any map.
