On Scotland.. and the Orange Order
I will look at a fairly random photo set from a few years ago, taken right outside my house, and see where it leads me. And indeed, all of us. Does Freedom matter? If so, let us reflect what it means.
So, I guess most people know that in Scotland, there is an ‘Orange Order’ and that they like to march. They have musical bands, and wear uniforms and sashes, and they celebrate some historical events.
So far, so good. What’s wrong with some silly fancy dress and pageantry?
In my opinion, very little harm is caused, as long as they don’t actually burn down or abuse Catholic homes or churches… they are simply celebrating a centuries long struggle by Protestants against the Pope, the Catholic church and the subversion of the UK by shadowy foreign forces and agents.
And let us not fool ourselves: many people died and suffered to free Scotland from the bloody and rigid dictates of the Inquisition. This is not some kiddies game.
Now, this might all seem a bit ridiculous nowadays, but lets think back: can anyone imagine a world in which the Papacy of Rome continued to tell us what books we could read and what films we could watch?
I am not exactly a fan of the Orange Order, but I respect their right to march. Peacefully.
