Northern Lights in Scotland
The aurora borealis is known in Gaelic as Na Fir-chlis, literally 'the nimble men'. On Sunday night, 26th Feb, 2023, we were about to witness the greatest show on Earth.
For once I’ll curate some of the best photos of other people: you need an exceptionally good camera to get exceptionally good photos of the night sky, because, you know, most cannot handle the complex light of the stars. Though I’ve seen some decent images from mobile phones, they cannot compare with the best cameras.
This shot was taken by a neighbour of mine, Cat Perkington Photography, at Silvanus, a modern sculpture of a Roman Centurion that is on the Croy Hill near my home in Kilsyth, right beside the Antonine Wall - a Roman edge-of-empire fortification built around 2,000 years ago.
And my friends in Easdale island put this stunning collection together

Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos from these great photographers, Rob. Our son lives in Dunkeld and wasn't able to get somewhere else to view this amazing spectacle on Sunday, and then last night the weather closed in. So it was great I was able to share your post with the family! Scotland is one of my favourite places on this planet...
